Roger Langridge stepping down from the Muppet Show comic

Posted on November 30, 2010 - 07:08 AM by Brigid Alverson

Citing personal reasons, Roger Langridge announced on his blog today that he will no longer be drawing the Muppet Show comics for BOOM! Studios although he will wind up his run on The Four Seasons. He promises he will return, but probably not on that project:

“Thing is, I was ready to move on – this personal situation made me jump when I did, but I was looking for an appropriate time to jump anyway,” he wrote on his blog. “I feel like I’ve done about as much as I can with the Muppet characters – really, I’d rather move on while it’s still fun than carry on grinding away long past the point where I’m enjoying it.”

Langridge’s work on the Muppet Show comics was well received by critics, as was his writing for Thor: The Mighty Avenger, which was recently canceled by Marvel.

I never heard about the Thor cancellation, but noticed it was missing from recent solicits… no Muppets AND no Thor? I’m totally heartbroken now… Best of luck, but I hope we see your return soon on something just as wonderful!

Pity, but probably the right decision; always leave ‘em wanting more.

Still mad about the Thor cancellation, but looking forward to seeing what he does next.

I’m curious to see what Langridge, and his Thor partner Chris Samnee, have next on their plates.

It has been a couple months without a new Muppet Show solicit in the Previews. Same with any new Pixar comics. Wonder if Boom Studios! still has the license for the two franchises.

This is a total bummer.

“I never heard about the Thor cancellation”

Been on a desert island with no internet? The book’s cancellation made more waves than its existence.

If this means more Fred the Clown then I’m cool with it. His Muppet Show run was fantastic and I’ll still be enjoying it for years to come.

When I first heard about a Muppet Show comic book my knee-jerk reaction was “That would never work. You can’t translate the appeal of the Muppet Show to comics.” I read the preview pages though and I thought they were pretty funny. I then bought the comic and was delighted to find out how wrong my initial feelings were.

This was one of the best comics on the stands and I love every issue. I’m disappointed that it’s over, but it’s probably a good idea for Mr. Langridge to walk away before the book stops being fun to do.
