Welcome once again to Shelf Porn, where fans show off their collections of comics, graphic novels and the like. Today’s Shelf Porn was submitted by Fritz Park from Seoul, Korea, whose collection is currently on display at a local bookstore.
If you’d like to submit your own Shelf Porn, we could certainly use it — just send a write-ups and jpgs to jkparkin@yahoo.com.
And now here’s Fritz.

Fritz here. Just thought I’d share these images of my comics on display at a local bookstore in Seoul, Korea. Its a new bookstore that aims to show different kinds of books, graphic novels being one of them. The bookstore is called Thanks Books, located in the hippest part of Seoul.
All the major titles have been translated into Korean, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman Year One, Killing Joke, From Hell, Watchmen etc. If you look closely you can see foreign lettering… that’s Korean!
Also, I was able to show A, B, C, D, E of Todd Klein’s lettering series posters. Specifically, Alphabets of Desire with Alan Moore, Before You Read This with Neil Gaiman, Comic Book Dreams with Alex Ross, Drawing the Sword with JH Williams III and Each Beast at the Feast with Mark Buckingham. All nicely framed and on display on the counter!
With all the major superheroes hitting the big screens all over the world there is ALOT of interest in American comics here in Korea! We’re having a Comics Trading Day on the 14th of May and should have a big crowd of comics enthusiasts!

I really like this article. Good stuff.
HDOMay 7, 2011 at 12:24 pmThat is a nice looking shop.
I’m glad that they’ve translated so many key books, but it’s too bad they got Dark Knight Strikes Again. That never should have existed in any language.

I agree with you, that was the worst Batman story ever published, to date, even Bizzaro Superman and Batman wouldn’t touch it.
Dark Satanic Hayley MillsMay 7, 2011 at 4:04 pmNice photos.
Dark Knight Strikes Again is amazing.
That is all.
Fritz ParkMay 7, 2011 at 5:33 pmI’m sort of on the sideline with the whole love/ hate Dark Knight Strikes Again bit. I will say this though, that it doesn’t translate well into Korean. The story is too deep into DC mythology that without any prior knowledge about say, the Flash, Hal Jordan, Shazam and especially Dick Grayson its just a jumble of words and pictures!
Glad you liked the shop though! Hopefully it’ll evolve into a full-fledged comic store in the near future!
mr. pantsMay 8, 2011 at 10:29 amDid Dan Clowes do the Ice Haven lettering for the title? Is it Drawn? Who are some key comics publishers there?
Thanks for this. Nice little article.
