Comic Book Moments of the Week for 04/20/11

For this week's moments, we've got a War of Green Lanterns, a Super Dinosaur with manners, a super secret reveal in Avengers, and the new Thunderbolts member doesn't quite understand sexual harassment laws. All that, plus how Wolverine wins at cards, after the jump!

Avengers #12

The Avengers trick the Hood (Thanos was a feint made by Dr. Strange), and steal his gems. Iron Man then forms the Infinity Gauntlet and does two things: sends the Hood back to prison, and wishes the gems out of existence. Or does he? Dun dun duuuuunnnnnn.....
Steve Rogers takes over Black Bolt's spot on the Illuminati, taking possession of the time gem. I suggest putting it in a block of ice in the Arctic for 50 years, it's worked before.

Batman #709

Dick Grayson uncovers a lost memory in a Wolverine-type fashion. Here, a fellow acrobat named The Prodigy was the top draw at Haley's Circus, but got nearly beaten to death in one of the towns they stopped at. Dick could have warned him but didn't out of jealousy. Tell me that last panel in the first page doesn't freak you out a bit.

Gotham City Sirens #22

Selina's sister Maggie becomes a part of Selina's test against Azrael and The Crusader, still hanging onto the notion that Selina is possessed by a demon. That she would have to kill her sister to past the test is apawling.

Green Lantern #65

As seen in Kirk's review yesterday, Hal held onto the rings from the other colored Corps  members who were sucked into the Book of the Black. Nice splash page from Doug Mahnke to round out the scene.

Green Lantern Corps #59
Mogo decides to join in with the other corrupted members of the Corps. I like to imagine he bullied all the other planets on the way to Oa, knocking rings off of planets, kicking moons out of orbit, it's why he doesn't socialize.

Power Girl #23

Power Girl's updated identity is revealed. Nice touch with the glasses as a nod to Superman/Clark.

Super Dinosaur #1

The first issue of Robert Kirkman's all ages book, Super Dinosaur is about Derek Dynamo and his best friend Super Dinosaur, or SD for short. They fight bad dinosaurs, very straightforward premise. SD is just a cool dinosaur, and really polite. I'm glad manners haven't gone extinct.

Supergirl #63
The mystery villain behind the targeting of all the young meta heroes is revealed to be Dubbilex, the super cool Cadmus member and former Superboy mentor. Here's hoping this is just one of many clones Cadmus kept around, right next to the employee refrigerator or vending machines.

Thunderbolts #156

Satana gets to know her new teammates very closely. So closely, in fact, that Jeff Parker has mentioned that Marvel positioned those word balloons over Satana's groping of Moonstone. This is the best book from Marvel at the moment, jump aboard with this issue and see the formation of a new squad of villains looking for redemption.

Wolverine #8

Wolverine's head is filled with the naughtiest things. And it looks like Squirrel Girl is now canon in terms of romance, which is just nuts. Poor Melita though, because later on in the issue Jean appears along with Nightcrawler to help Logan....
This time Logan wants to come back to life for revenge. Jean (who very well could have been the real deal and not a figment of Logan's mind) cleans his soul of all the demons that the ninjas infected his mind with. Next issue: Mystique.

Dubbilex as a villain sounds pretty stupid.

Did they forget Guy has a lot more experience with the yellow ring than Hal?

Of those Wolverine pages, I really liked that the door "Reasons to Hate Myself" has a graffiti that says "Dr. Rot Was Here".

Now I'm left wondering who Logan had sex with in the Danger Room. Or if he used the Danger Room to create a hologram of someone to have sex with...

I don't think Wolverine had sex with Squirell Girl. She's in the sexual fantasy room along with Luke Cage's wife. He just wants her to do very wrong things to him, which would be a good reason to not be on a team with her.

@Matt: Remember, this is Wolverine we are talking about: all his women end up dead after they are intimate with Logan; so I would start there ;)

Awesome Wolverine issue! and next up: Mystique! looking foward to that one

My name is Kirk Warren and I’m a full time comic fan blowing my pay cheques on way too many comics every week.

Back in the early 90's, my mother bought me a Spider-Man comic to shut me up on a trip. I didn’t know it at the time, but that moment changed my life. Since then I've become a full blown comic fan and now purchase well in excess of 20 comics per month plus trades and other comic related goods.

As you can see, I've taken my hobby to the next step with this blog and it's allowed me to connect every single day with thousands of people that share the same passion I have for comics and I wouldn't change that for the world.
