Saturday Shelf Porn

Welcome to another edition of Shelf Porn. Today’s shelves comes from 17-year-old Grady Dixson in upstate New York, who shares a room I wish I’d had when I was 17.

If you’d like to show off your collection, it’s easy — just send a write-up and some jpgs to jkparkin@yahoo.com.

And now here’s Grady …

*****

Hi, I’m Grady Dixson, I’m 17 and from upstate NY. I’ve officially been collecting since I was 12, and unofficially my entire life.

When you go upstairs in my house (or more accurately my Dad’s house) you admittedly know which rooms mine before you even open the door.

As you can see the inside of my room is just as cluttered and wild as the door would suggest.

DC universe character Origins, as well as my Light sabre.

A bunch of posters, and trophies from my journeys.

Some of my trades …

The following is a butt load of pictures of my Action Figure Collection………….

The majority of my favorite figures get crammed on this top shelf. I like it, I think it gives an overall view of all my interests, almost like what a movie poster would look like, if the movie had all my favorite characters in it.

My collection of all the rings in the spectrum. And look it’s the big 3!

The Justice Society of America!

Again very Random but don’t they look awesome together?

Shazam!

Some of my trades and hardcovers …

(as you can see I’m a big mountain dew fan).

More trades as well as some of my star wars figures……

Some of my DVD’s as well as my DeLorean………..

Some more of my DVD’s …

The entertainment system, not exactly state of the art but it gets the job done …

My favorite ninja turtle action figures, as well as my collection of classic NES games……..oh and Ash is just hanging out up there, protecting my room, from any armies, dark or otherwise.

More proof of just how random my setup is……….

And this is where I put my comics from the current month….. The rest of my comic collection is in storage, Dads orders :/

Two of my favorite comics, Blue Beetle #1 (Charlton series Vol. 2) the first solo issue of Ted Kord, as well as the first appearance of The Question, and Booster Gold (DC Vol. 2) Signed by Geoff Johns.

And that’s my collection, hope you guys enjoyed checking out what this Jr. Geek had hidden away.

Not bad, Grady. More impressive than quite a few of the collections I’ve seen from (presumably) adult collectors. It would have been nice to have seen more of those comics you have in storage though. Keep it up!

nice set up love the ash standing by the enterprise and prof x. plus the darth vader figure in that one container is unique with all the mountain dew stuff.

Yup. Also a 17 year old comic fan. Thought about sending in my room a while ago but it’s not nearly as full as this. Crazy.

Nice collection of trades: JSA, Starman, Greyshirt and Swamp Thing to name a few. Love the JSA collection of figures.

What a great collection ESPECIALLY for someone under 20! I love how you have some comics and action figures that were made before your time. It’s nice to see someone with a good sense of history. Your sense of randomness works very well, but I have to ask: Isn’t it tedious having to move figures around when you want to pull a trade, hardcover, or dvd out?

The Burger King crown on the Iron Man helmet made me laugh out loud. Great collection!

I think you need some more figures. Kidding. I wish I had the room in my den for all the stuff you have. Impressive!

GradyApril 23, 2011 at 9:24 pm

if you notice the majority of my figures, are on shelves just by themselves. when i wanna take a trade or dvd out its not to hard because those areas have very few figures, usually just one in my way. but if i dont expand soon i may have to start crowding haha

Is it weird that I was most impressed and pleasantly surprised by the framed Audrey Hepburn photo? But then my room is dominated by action figures, trades, DVDs, superhero stuff but also has framed photos of Ava Gardner, Kim Novak, Hedy Lamarr, Myrna Loy, Debra Paget, Grace Kelly, and Gene Tierney.

Is that a Snake-Eyes mask next to the window? I always wonder where people get things like that and the Iron Man masks. I never see stuff like those in stores where I am.

It’s a very impressive and nicely arranged collection, for so many different things. It works really well, the only thing that made no sense was the computer though, does not look comfortable to use.

Whoa, you must’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars on this collection. Have you ever considered what would happen to all of these collectibles once you’re gone? I know it’s morbid, but often I’d run into someone’s comics related collectibles and wondered what happened to the owners to cause these lifetime collections to end up in used/thrift store.

GradyApril 24, 2011 at 11:40 am

to be honest, the idea of my stuff being sent out into the world, through different comic shops and stores is kinda poetic. i like it. the idea that what i enjoyed and what i built will go on to be part of what alot of other people may build in the future. or even if it just ends up in the hands of some six year old, that way its being enjoyed……..
